ABOUT ME

Fatemeh Ahmadi - Electrical Engineering Student

Hi!! I am Fatemeh; a PhD Student at Concordia University majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I am working on developing new microfluidic devices for applications like directed evolution and personalized diagnosis under the supervision of Dr. Steve Shih. I am very interested in leveraging engineering knowledge and technology for synthetic biology applications.

I have got my master in the same laboratory and my project focused on developing an integrated droplet/ digital microfluidic platform for n-ary sorting of yeast mutants (the paper of my work is here). I got my bachelor in Material Science and Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic). Before joining Concordia University I worked about 2 years as a student researcher for Professor Frank Yaghmaie in Advanced Materials Laboratory.

We developed an integrated droplet/digital microfluidics capable of on-demand droplet generation, mixing, trapping, sorting for implementing applications like directed evolution on chip. I worked on an industrial project focusing on Ceramic Leaching mechanism under supervision of Professor Frank Yaghmaie (formerly of UC Davis). This project was funded by MAPNA, one of the most professional companies in Iran. I also learned about many equipment and processes employed in Microfabrication, thanks to the infinite support of Prof.Yaghmaie.

I was in the executive committee of the 1st International Microscopic Image Contest that featured the best microscopic works of researchers and students and highlighted the latest advances and innovations in microscopic imaging.
